Maximum speed limit of 70 miles per hour
A red ring around the number 70. The standard maximum speed limit on UK motorways and dual carriageways for cars and light vans. HGVs, vans over 7.5 tonnes, and any vehicle towing a caravan or trailer have lower limits even when the 70 mph sign is in force. The sign exists explicitly when a road previously had a lower limit (for example, after a 50 mph roadworks zone) and the limit is reverting back.

Where you'll see this sign
On motorways after roadworks restrictions end, on dual carriageways after temporary lower limits, and on smart motorways via overhead variable-message signs.
