How early should I arrive at Birmingham Theory Test Centre?

Aim to arrive 15 minutes before your test slot. You'll need time to check in, store your belongings in a locker (you can't take phones, watches or bags into the test room), and complete the centre's photo and signature checks before being seated.

What ID do I need to bring?

Your UK photocard provisional driving licence, plus the booking confirmation email or reference number. You can't take the test without your licence — being even one minute late or turning up without ID counts as a no-show and you forfeit the fee.

How long is the UK theory test?

The full test takes about 1 hour 20 minutes — 57 minutes for 50 multiple-choice questions, then a short break, then 22 minutes for 14 hazard perception clips. The pass marks are 43/50 on the multiple choice and 44/75 on hazard perception. You need to pass both parts in the same sitting.

What happens if I fail the theory test?

You'll need to pay the £23 fee again and book a fresh appointment. By law you must wait at least 3 working days from your failed attempt before you can sit it again. Use the time to find your weak topics — New Driver Hub's free mock and Road Sign Directory are designed for exactly that.

Bookings are taken directly by DVSA via gov.uk/book-theory-test — you can't book through any third party. New Driver Hub helps you prepare with free mock tests, the Road Sign Directory, and a dashboard that targets your weak areas.
