A red triangle with an upward-pointing slope and the gradient (here 20%, or 1 in 5) warns of a steep climb. Drop into a lower gear early — losing momentum mid-climb makes it hard to recover. If you're towing or driving an underpowered vehicle, expect to need second or even first gear.
