Puffin crossing ahead
A red triangle with a pedestrian figure warns of a Puffin (Pedestrian User Friendly INtelligent) crossing — the modern replacement for Pelican crossings. Sensors detect when pedestrians are still on the crossing and hold the red signal until they're clear, then return straight to green for traffic (no flashing amber). The pedestrian signal is on the same side of the road as the pedestrian, not opposite.

Where you'll see this sign
Newer urban crossings, school-zone crossings installed after 2010, and replacements for older Pelican crossings in town centres.

How well do you really know your road signs? New Driver Hub's free mock theory test pulls from official-style DVSA questions and tells you which signs you keep getting wrong.
