Maximum speed limit of 20 miles per hour
A red ring around the number 20 means an absolute speed limit — driving faster than 20 mph is illegal. The 20 mph limit is used in places where vulnerable road users are likely: residential streets, near schools, in town centres and around shopping areas. The limit applies until you see a sign that ends it (a black diagonal line through the limit) or a different speed limit takes over.
